Day 7!

First day on the job! Owen and I both work at Assegai Primary School. Primary School in South Africa is grade R (Kindergarten) to Grade 7. Owen and I are completely treated like teachers. We are required to be at school at 7:30 for morning briefings, and eat/hang out in the teachers lounge. I even have the wifi password and teachers don’t! Shhh! Today and tomorrow Owen and I will be going around to every classroom to introduce ourselves and to answer any questions about living in America. I hear that the learners (students) have been anxiously awaiting us for a few weeks now!! Each classroom has about 45 students. The older kids are now in exams. School gets out at 2pm, and the students wear these cute red uniforms. Towards the end of the day, we got to play on the playground with the grade Rs. I’ve never gotten so many hugs in my life! The boys went to play soccer with Owen, and the girls and I played duck duck goose, ring around the rosie, limbo, hula hoop, races, and red rover red rover! I actually received so many hugs by a mob of girls that I literally fell and got piled on. Best moment of my life.
